CVDPREVENT (National Audit of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention in Primary Care), workstream 3

Delivered by: NHS Benchmarking Network
Website: About CVDPREVENT

The National Audit of Cardiovascular Disease Prevention in Primary Care (CVDPREVENT) aims to support professionally-led quality improvement in primary care for the prevention of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in England. Its outputs support this by helping organisations to identify variation, trends and opportunities in the identification, diagnosis and management of CVD conditions. By offering reliable insights across practices, Primary Care Networks (PCNs), Integrated Care Boards (ICBs), and regions, the audit empowers clinicians and system leaders to focus resources where they can have the greatest impact. For patients, this means earlier diagnosis, improved management of long-term conditions, and reduced risk of serious cardiovascular events such as heart attacks and strokes.

CVDPREVENT uses data extracted from GP records. It supports primary care in understanding how many people with CVD or conditions that lead to a higher risk of developing CVD are potentially not identified, undiagnosed, under treated or possibly over-treated.

HQIP commissions workstream three of the CVDPREVENT audit, covering the reporting and quality improvement elements of the programme.

Supporting improvement

Analysis and reporting of the audit supports systematic quality improvement (QI) to reduce health inequalities and improve outcomes for individuals and populations. The CVDPREVENT website signposts teams to tools and approaches – such as QI Data Packs – to support their quality improvement journey.
